Exabytes “Hitting The Cloud” Launch At Bangsar City Golf, Kuala Lumpur

December 16th, 2011
Exabytes Launched The Very First Full Fledged Cloud Hosting Service In Malaysia

Exabytes on December 13 launched the very first comprehensive cloud hosting service in Malaysia named “Hitting The Cloud” at Bangsar City Golf, Malaysia’s premier indoor golf entertainment venue. 12 Exabees together with 82 specially invited customers played the state-of-the-art golf simulator with the common aim of hitting their cloud targets which signified the readiness of customers to adopt cloud technology which was unarguably the future of websites, e-Commerce and web hosting.

The “Hitting the Cloud” Launch started at 10.30am for guest registrations. However, some of our VIP guests had arrived at City Golf at 10am. At 11am sharp, CEO Chan Kee Siak officially kick-started the launch giving his keynote speech“What Is a True Public Cloud?” In fact, cloud hosting also known as hosting in the cloud is the web hosting services delivered as a service rather than a product over the Internet which allows users to fully focus on their websites, eCommerce, products, profits, etc instead of hardware and its huge cost in upgrading. It is also a technology that will soon replace the old idea of renting a server or shared hosting and is often described as “unlimited computing power – bandwidth, RAM, CPU power, storage, etc on demand” whenever needed by users.

Furthermore, Exabytes was delighted and proud to have Mr. Rafe Asznal, the representative from MDEC to make the second keynote address on MSC Cloud Initiatives. MDEC is a corporation which leads and provides leadership for the development and implementation of key industry initiatives and programs in support of MSC Malaysia’s corporate goals.

Upon completion of Mr. Rafe’s keynote address, CEO Chan came to stage to present a souvenir in appreciation of his valuable support. There, the event took a 30-minute break; many participants were seen networking and mingling freely among themselves and Exabees. Some took the chance to visit the Cloud Demo counters set up by Exabees to know more about Exabytes Cloud Hosting.

Besides, the 30-minute break was also the time for “Hitting The Cloud Contest” in which participants were required to hit the golf ball to the longest range using the state-of-the-art golf simulator to become the winners. Top 3 participants who managed to do so would receive vouchers sponsored by City Golf and Logitech Wireless mouse sponsored by Exabytes.

Before our participants got to experience the golf simulator, we were all delighted to have the host of the venue cum General Manager of City Golf, Mr. Daniel Franklin Gomez to demonstrate his exceptional golfing skills. Subsequently, the audience shifted their attention to “Exabytes Cloud in Action”.

A Live Demo which was specially designed to give our users a picture on how Exabytes Cloud Hosting works, its flexibility and how can users scale their resource limit or computing power using Exabytes Cloud Control Panel. Many participants were left impressed on how easy it was to manage their own cloud hosting accounts through
Exabytes control panel.

The Live Demo was followed by Q&A session for participants to clear any lingering doubts they had on their mind. When the clock struck 1.15pm, the much anticipated Hitting The Cloud Contest Prizes Giveaway and Lucky Draw were underway.

A total of 20 gifts were given away, among them the grand prize of lucky draw Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus sponsored by Exabytes, limited edition gifts from OpenSRS which were couriered all the way from the US, limited edition gifts from Kaspersky and Google, limited edition keychains and pen drives from Exabytes, CityGolf vouchers sponsored by CityGolf Bangsar, 5 Starbucks Coffee vouchers and 5 Logitech Wireless Computer Mice sponsored by Exabytes.

Next, it was time to fill up our empty stomach. Lunch was served in buffet style and drinks such as soft drink and fruit juice were served bottomless. Our participants started to roam around to make friends or improve their golfing skills at the golf simulator. Event evaluation forms were also given to our participants for their valuable feedback. And Limited Edition Exabytes Cloud T-Shirts were given away for free to further appreciate their comments and suggestions.

Finally, Exabytes Cloud Hosting Launch “Hitting The Cloud” concluded at around 3pm. We at Exabytes wish to thank all committee members for their hard work, Mr. Rafe Asznal for his sharing and our beloved guest customers for their precious time and active participation. We are happy that the event has served its purpose and given our participants a wonderful time and a better idea on cloud technology or cloud hosting. Part 2: Exabytes Bittersweet Journey Towards Achieving ISO 9001:2008 Web Hosting Provisioning

December 8th, 2011

To our great surprise, we found out, according to our ISO consultant, that the majority of ISO compliant working procedures and standardization were already in place at Exabytes. However, we had not had the proper documentation to indicate our work flow, which was also of paramount importance to give Exabytes new employees a standard guide during training. In other words, our staff training was done orally with hands-on experience and practical guidance, still lacking a comprehensive written manual of working procedures that allows new staff to refer and read to understand more both during and after training.

From there, efforts to document all our standard working procedures kick-started.

Department managers drew out the process of each working procedure using flowcharts, described them in professional terms and filled out numerous forms after having regular meet-ups with team members and cross department meetings with managers.

The required forms and documentations included:

  • Approve Supplier List
  • Supplier Performance Evaluation Form
  • Corrective Action Request Form
  • NCP Database
  • Observation List
  • Audit Check List
  • Audit Plan
  • Customer Satisfaction Survey
  • Payment Received and Credit Handling
  • Domain Name Guideline
  • Refund Processing
  • Fraud Handling
  • Management Review Meeting Minute Template
  • etc

At the end of July, 2011, as all documentation of various departments were completed in time, we invited our ISO consultant to come once again to perform an internal audit in order to make sure everything was properly and correctly documented. Subsequently, some changes on documents were made and in early August, we were 100% already ready for the big day – the upcoming official audit by ISO.

August was the much anticipated month by Exabees! BM Trada, the ISO body in Malaysia came to perform the official audit. Numerous interviews with various department managers were conducted by the persons from BM Trada, to investigate whether all facets of Exabytes and its working procedures were in compliance with the requirements of ISO.

The month of November was the month of celebration, as Exabytes was finally awarded ISO 9001:2008 Web Hosting Provisioning!! Once again, thank you to our ISO consultant and kudos to all Exabees for all the sweat and hard work everyone has put in for the past 10 years in making this a reality!

To you our blog readers who intend to get your own companies ISO certified as well, don’t hesitate. The process might be a little time consuming and bitter sweet, but eventually, it was definitely worth the effort!

Part 1: Exabytes Bittersweet Journey Towards Achieving ISO 9001:2008 Web Hosting Provisioning

December 5th, 2011

Good Day to our fellow blog readers!

As Exabytes was awarded the prestigious ISO (The International Organization for Standardization) Certification in November, in this blog post we will be sharing the experience, hard work and steps we have gone through in the process of obtaining ISO 9001:2008 Web Hosting Provisioning with our fellow blog followers who are thinking about getting ISO certified too for their companies or simply want to know more about the application process of ISO.

At Exabytes, it all started in early March, 2011 when the idea of getting certified was brought up and discussed several times. After some investigations into the idea, we decided to take the initiative to start getting ourselves prepared although then we didn’t have too much knowledge with regard to the requirements of ISO. Exabees began by seeking every way to standardize, streamline and improve our various working procedures in client’s feedback handling, management, supplier selection, supplier performance, internal audit, control of records, corrective and preventive action, etc. It took us 1-2 months to undergo serious self-evaluation and self-improvement on our system, before we were satisfied with the changes and improvements we had implemented. However, even after that, we were still unsure and wondering whether we had done enough and were well prepared for ISO.

Seeking to be more certain, by introduction we were approached by an ISO consultant who offered to help and gave us the necessary advice on working towards the application of ISO. The helpful consultant set out to investigate every facet of Exabytes as well as every detailed working steps involved especially in Customer Service, Technical, Human Resource and Business Development department. The investigation was completed in around one month, before we came to the moment of truth as to whether Exabytes needed major improvements and adjustments before we were able to be considered as ISO compliant.

To be Continued…..

Press Conference on Launch of KHES (Kaspersky Hosted Email Security)

July 11th, 2011

In conjunction with the recent partnership of Exabytes with Kaspersky Lab to introduce KHES (Kaspersky Hosted Email Security), an official press conference which attended by more than 15 members of the press was held at Mid Valley SME Expo on 30th June at 2.00 pm.

Couldn’t stress enough on the importance of internet security to any company/individual to avoid being the easy target of hackers and phishers who steal personal/financial information online, CEO Chan once again presented at the event the promotional add-on rate of RM120 for the first year for every 10 mailboxes with renewal of RM300 per year for 10 mailboxes. For new clients, the introductory price is RM300 compared to the regular price of RM600 per year for 10 mailboxes. “We want to encourage our clients to protect themselves against these hackers and phishers who cause users huge amount of money each year. And that’s the reason we are offering discounted introductory price”, said Chan.

Also present at the press conference was Mr. Jimmy Fong, Channel Sales Director, SEA, Kaspersky Lab. Jimmy quoted some highly convincing data by Kaspersky showing that from the close of 2009, the number of malicious programs designed to steal any type of users’ personal data has increased by more than 100%. Moreover, based on a recent survey conducted by IDC Security, about 58% of Asian manufacturers do not know how many security events have occurred in their organizations in the past 12 months. “These cyber criminals have great experience in penetrating corporate networks, stealing personal and financial information from users. For clients who do not have IT support personnel, they are especially vulnerable to these attacks, and KHES can do just the right job by giving Exabytes’ clients a piece of mind.” Fong stressed.

CEO Chan was particularly impressed earlier this year after several stringent and extensive test lab sessions and follow-up analyses were carried out on Kaspersky products especially its cloud solution. “The commitment from Kaspersky team really caught our attention. Apart from the numerous benefits of KHES including world-class protection, rapid deployment, maintenance-free and cost effectiveness, it allows the IT support personnel in a company to focus more on its core duties since KHES will be the security guardian to the company’s network”, Chan was quoted as saying at the press conference.

The dedicated members of the press were then treated to some refreshments before Kaspersky press kits such as free Kaspersky pens, notepads and USB thumb drives were given away in the goodie bags.

Amid flashes of cameras, Chan and Fong ‘sealed the deal’ with the signature handshake, symbolizing the beginning era of stronger cyber protection for Exabytes clients.
