Let’s Join Hands to Raise Awareness this Earth Hour 2012!

Horrifying Tsunami, devastating floods, melting of ice caps, extreme temperature hikes, deforestation and suddenly landslides are among the terrifying effects the human race has experienced in the past recent years. While some of the effects of ‘man-made catastrophes’ are reversible, many have left permanent damage to mother earth.

On the last Saturdays of March in both 2009 and 2010, the entire Exabytes HQ went ‘lightless’, in an effort to participate in the yearly Earth Hour organized by WWF, World Wide Fund for Nature aka World Wildlife Fund. All non-essential lights in Exabytes’ office were turned off for one hour to raise the awareness of the public towards the urgency to take immediate action on climate change.

Many would question, “Would turning off the lights for one hour make a significant impact on the environment?” The answer is a resounding YES!

Education on environment conservation, raising awareness and spreading the word are the most effective ways to conserve the environment! For example, many of us are still not aware that unplugging an electrical appliance that is left unused for over 36 hours can help save electricity. So if everyone knows about this, everyone would be able to save plenty of energy whenever they leave their houses for more than 36-hour trips.

So spread the word! Tell your friends about the upcoming Earth Hour today and let’s turn off the lights in your houses and business premises on this March 31, 8:30pm to 9:30pm local time to help save the environment!

Three months has lapsed since we bid farewell to year 2011. However, we are still not able to forget a selfless angel who dedicated a great deal and gave us all her best in the very last month of 2011. Yes, you’ve guessed it right! We are talking about our beloved EOTM December 2011 who set an extraordinary example for all Exabees especially newbies at Exabytes.

She is named ‘the satellite’ in our office who knows about everything about everybody which includes a person’s love life, family matters and even daily complaints. How has she managed to do so? Well, our star of December 2011 is an extremely good listener whom many of us find it easy and comfortable to tell her our problems. Outside work, she devotes a great amount of time doing something she absolutely adores – handmade art! She loves creating little things such as name card holders (the cute version) and has a website for her fans to check out her new items and collectibles and follow her on Facebook.

Together, let’s give a big round of applause to level 3 System Engineer, Ms Tan Ee Dawn!!

Last December, she had again raised the benchmark for EOTM with her impressive working attitude such as the following:

• is punctual all the time
• always provide good guidance to juniors
• is very friendly to all colleagues

A Brand New Look & Brand New “Toys” At the Irresistible Exabytes Fun Room

If there is a way to describe Exabees, we are firm believers of ‘all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’ as well as ‘work hard and play hard’. In 2008, when Exabytes moved from Mayang Mall to Suntech, Penang Cybercity, a fun room that equipped with a Nintendo Wii, a huge flat screen TV as well as a set of comfy sofa was built for Exabees to relax, disconnect from work and have a great time together. Over the years a Microsoft Xbox was added to the fun room for more variety, thanks to our CEO Chan.

Last month, Exabytes fun room has once again got its new look and new toys! The previous huge flat screen TV was replaced by the all novel Samsung 46″ smart TV, the previous comfy sofa replaced by the incredibly soft bean bags chairs and the previous Nintendo Wii replaced by the exciting Play Station 3.

On top of that, the previous fun stuff above have been moved to the open area outside fun room (now Exabytes’ 2nd fun room / area), this time also equipped with a Wii guitar controller for the trendy and enjoyable “Guitar Hero”.

Besides the much anticipated PS3, the Samsung 46″ smart TV is another novelty! It has various special functionality including letting us connect our mobiles to it, play 3D games, watch favourite 3D movies and make a few comments through social hub just to name a few!
