The time has come again for us to reward the star of Exabytes, aka Employee of the Month. As usual, before we reveal the big secret, we are going to keep you in suspense and let’s see if you could figure out who the big star was for the second month of 2012. She…, is a female in our Creative department. She…, is a craft maker who devotes her free time to making cute little stuff such as soft toys, key holders, purses, etc. She…, is a very artistic person who believes that a picture is worth a thousand words and she…, is a cheerful lady who when ‘provoked’, would fill the entire office with her machine gun like laughter.

However, having a lovable personality is not enough to impress our ever critical judges of EOTM. In last February, this special star of Exabytes demonstrated her great willingness in leading the juniors and putting up extra hours to complete her tasks besides being extremely independent in finding solutions to rejected art work.

Without further ado, let’s put our hands together to Web & Graphic Designer, Ms Alysa Lee!

Alysa deserves our highest salutation in the month of February because she:

April 6, 2012, a group consisted of 30 Exabees, some dying to hold a gun in their hands for the first time in their life, checked into Pisa Paintball at Penang International Sports Arena in Relau at 7.00pm. The weather was not promising; it was drizzling before we even arrived. However, that did not interfere with our plan to fight each other neck and neck, as the ‘war’ was planned for indoor instead of outdoor.

Paintball, or some call it ‘painball’, is a game loved by many especially the youngsters. Not only is it a game that requires shooting precision, it demands high level of teamwork, cooperation and tactics from the players. For many Exabees who dream to be warriors fighting for a war, this particular day was the moment of truth for them to prove their worth as a hero!  Read more…

Happy Labor Day Everybody!

Labor Day, May Day or International Workers’ Day which falls on May 1 every year in Malaysia is an annual holiday to celebrate the economic contributions and achievements of workers in various countries. Although certain countries such as the United States, Canada and Australia commemorate this special occasion on different dates (the US and Canada on the first Monday in September, Australia in different months for various states and territories), labor day is no doubt a holiday for all working people to take a break, relax and spend some quality time.

Earth Day is around the corner, are you earth inhabitants prepared to show your love to mother earth this April 22? Today, Earth Day is a global yearly event that is held worldwide or at least in 175 countries to increase awareness and appreciation of the Earth’s natural environment.

April 11, 2012 is a big day for all Malaysians. The Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah is to be installed as the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on this great day! The official installation ceremony is to be held in the morning, before a royal banquet at night at the Istana Negara.

In conjunction with this special celebration, the Malaysian government has declared this momentous day as a national public holiday. Exabytes office will also be also closed on April 11 (Wednesday) and reopen on April 12. During the very first month of year 2012, a super-duper fast learner and exceptionally confident person who hadn’t even passed her probationary period had successfully earned the trust of our ever critical judges of EOTM and grabbed the honor Employee of the Month.

Also a very hardworking person, she joined Exabytes in January 2012 and before her on-the-job training was even completed, she was already picking up customer phone calls and guiding them on matters regarding billing and payments. Taking the initiative to help others at work whenever she could, we at customer service department had never spotted any fear in her in handling customer complaints.

Without further ado, let’s put our hands together for Billing Analyst, Ms Chai Xin Ming! Apart from being a fast learner, Xin Ming had demonstrated great initiative to acquire new skills and knowledge during her job training. In January, she was officially crowned Exabytes’ EOTM mainy because of the following:

• demonstrating confidence and courage to handle incoming customer calls even before job training was completed.
• handling tickets regarding payment issues very well.
• was a fast and eager learner.
• was self-motivated to give guidance and assistance to clients.

Let’s Join Hands to Raise Awareness this Earth Hour 2012!

Horrifying Tsunami, devastating floods, melting of ice caps, extreme temperature hikes, deforestation and suddenly landslides are among the terrifying effects the human race has experienced in the past recent years. While some of the effects of ‘man-made catastrophes’ are reversible, many have left permanent damage to mother earth.

On the last Saturdays of March in both 2009 and 2010, the entire Exabytes HQ went ‘lightless’, in an effort to participate in the yearly Earth Hour organized by WWF, World Wide Fund for Nature aka World Wildlife Fund. All non-essential lights in Exabytes’ office were turned off for one hour to raise the awareness of the public towards the urgency to take immediate action on climate change.

Many would question, “Would turning off the lights for one hour make a significant impact on the environment?” The answer is a resounding YES!

Education on environment conservation, raising awareness and spreading the word are the most effective ways to conserve the environment! For example, many of us are still not aware that unplugging an electrical appliance that is left unused for over 36 hours can help save electricity. So if everyone knows about this, everyone would be able to save plenty of energy whenever they leave their houses for more than 36-hour trips.

So spread the word! Tell your friends about the upcoming Earth Hour today and let’s turn off the lights in your houses and business premises on this March 31, 8:30pm to 9:30pm local time to help save the environment!
